Marcasite in Agate Macramé Necklace (Twisted Nightshade Jewellery)

This gorgeous marcasite in agate necklace is 100% genuine and natural. The teardrop-shaped cabochon has been meticulously wrapped in black waxed cotton thread and features an intricate pattern at the top.

The pendant comes on a macramé necklace which is also made of black waxed cotton thread. The necklace is about 57 cm / 22.25 in long and can be fastened by tying the beaded ends in a knot. To accommodate those who find tying knots difficult, we also offer the option of switching to a magnetic fastener.

The pendant itself measures about 5.5 cm (2.25 in) tall, 3 cm (1.2 in) wide, and .8 cm ( .3 in) thick.

Marcasite is named for the Medieval Latin term "marcasita," a derivative of the Arabic word "markaschatsa," meaning "fire stone." This gorgeous mineral looks very similar to pyrite, and is chemically similar to pyrite, but it forms in different ways. The Ancient Incans, Greeks and Egyptians all valued marcasite. It was not uncommon to see Cleopatra herself adorned in marcasite gemstones. Marcasite, much like pyrite, works as a grounding and meditation tool to bring more balance to our lives and connect us to the world around us. According to many beliefs, marcasite is a talisman associated with wisdom, courage and expression. Some people also believe it is a stone that inspires creativity. The stone is believed to fight intellectual fatigue, making it a favourite for students who are studying for big tests.
